Ingredients
  

For the Burgers
  • 1 pound Ground beef (80/20 mix) Use 80/20 beef for better flavor and juiciness.
  • 1 teaspoon Salt Salt just before or right after smashing.
  • 1 teaspoon Pepper
  • 2 tablespoons Butter For toasting the buns.
  • 4 pieces Burger buns Use fresh buns for best texture.
  • 4 slices Cheese (optional) Add during the last minute of cooking.
  • to taste Toppings (lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, etc.) Add your favorite toppings.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat a griddle or large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Form the ground beef into balls of about 4-6 ounces each.
Cooking
  1. Place the beef balls on the hot surface and smash them down with a spatula to create a flat patty.
  2. Season with salt and pepper.
  3. Cook for about 2-3 minutes until a crust forms, then flip and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes.
  4. If using cheese, add it on top of the patty during the last minute of cooking.
  5. Toast the buttered buns on the griddle.
  6. Assemble burgers by placing the patty on the bun and adding desired toppings.

Notes

Serve hot on a toasted bun. Add toppings of your choice. For best texture, eat immediately.
