  • 2 pounds beef short ribs This recipe works best with bone-in ribs.
  • 1 cup soy sauce For a gluten-free option, use tamari.
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar Can be substituted with honey or maple syrup.
  • 1/4 cup rice vinegar Adds tanginess to the sauce.
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil For an aromatic flavor.
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced Use fresh garlic for best flavor.
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated Fresh ginger enhances the dish.
  • 2 green onions sliced For garnish.
  • to taste Sesame seeds For garnish.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a bowl, mix together soy sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar, sesame oil, garlic, and ginger.
  2. Place the beef short ribs in the slow cooker and pour the sauce over the ribs.
Cooking
  1. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or until the ribs are tender.
  2. Once cooked, remove the ribs and strain the sauce if desired.
Serving
  1. Serve the short ribs garnished with green onions and sesame seeds, drizzled with the sauce.

Notes

Brown the ribs in a hot pan first for more flavor, but this step is optional. For a thicker sauce, reduce it in a pan. Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 4 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
