  • 1 piece egg
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • to taste Salt and pepper
For the gravy
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 tblsp cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
  • 1 tbsp water (optional, for thickening)

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined and form into oval patties.
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook patties for about 3-4 minutes on each side until browned.
Making the Gravy
  1. Remove patties from the skillet and set aside. In the same skillet, add mushrooms and sauté until tender.
  2. Stir in beef broth and bring to a simmer.
  3. Return the patties to the skillet and cover, cooking for about 10 more minutes.
  4. If you want a thicker gravy, mix cornstarch with water and stir into the broth.

Notes

Serve the patties with the mushroom gravy spooned over them. Good sides are mashed potatoes, green beans, or steamed carrots. For another flavor style, you can also serve with a simple side like stir-fried vegetables.
