Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with foil and coat it with nonstick cooking spray or use parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the thawed and well-drained shredded hash browns with shredded cheddar cheese, finely diced onion, melted butter, olive oil, salt, and pepper. Stir everything thoroughly until incorporated.
- Spread the hash brown mixture evenly onto the prepared baking sheet. Press down lightly to compact the mixture.
Cooking
- Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 25 to 30 minutes, until the edges turn deeply golden and crispy.
- For extra crunch, broil the hash browns for an additional 2 to 3 minutes, watching closely to prevent burning.
- Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly before cutting into squares or wedges.
Notes
Serve warm as a breakfast main with eggs, bacon, or as a side with grilled meat. Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven for best results.
