Ingredients
  

For the toffee
  • 1 cup unsalted butter Use for the toffee sauce.
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar Provides sweetness and helps the toffee form.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Enhances flavor.
For the base and topping
  • 2 cups saltine crackers Lay these out as the base.
  • 1 cup chocolate chips Melt and spread on top.
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts Optional for added crunch.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and arrange the saltine crackers in a single layer.
Making the Toffee
  1. In a saucepan, melt the butter and brown sugar over medium heat, stirring until combined.
  2. Bring to a boil and cook for 3 minutes without stirring.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Pour the toffee mixture over the crackers, spreading it evenly.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 5-7 minutes, or until bubbly.
Topping
  1. Remove from the oven and sprinkle chocolate chips on top.
  2. Let sit for a few minutes until the chocolate is melted, then spread it over the toffee layer.
  3. If desired, sprinkle chopped nuts on top.
Cooling and Serving
  1. Allow to cool, then break into pieces and serve.

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. For longer storage, keep in the fridge for up to 2 weeks with parchment layers to prevent sticking. Use even rows of crackers for even spreading of toffee.
