Preparation
- In a bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit until frothy, about 5 minutes.
- In a separate large bowl, mix flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Knead until smooth.
- Let the dough rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
Cooking
- Preheat your cast iron skillet in the oven at 475°F (245°C) for about 30 minutes.
- Once hot, sprinkle cornmeal on the skillet to prevent sticking. Stretch the dough to fit the skillet and press it down.
- Spread pizza sauce over the dough, sprinkle with cheese, and add desired toppings.
- Bake in the oven for 15-20 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and the crust is golden brown.
- Remove from oven, let cool slightly, slice, and serve.
Notes
For serving, slice the pizza and let people add extra red pepper flakes or olive oil. Serve with a simple salad or garlic bread. Store cooled pizza in the fridge for up to 3 days.
