Ingredients

Dough Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/4 cup cornmeal to sprinkle on the skillet
Toppings
  • Pizza sauce to taste
  • Shredded mozzarella cheese to taste
  • Toppings of your choice (pepperoni, vegetables, etc.)

Method

Preparation
  1. In a bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit until frothy, about 5 minutes.
  2. In a separate large bowl, mix flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Knead until smooth.
  3. Let the dough rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
Cooking
  1. Preheat your cast iron skillet in the oven at 475°F (245°C) for about 30 minutes.
  2. Once hot, sprinkle cornmeal on the skillet to prevent sticking. Stretch the dough to fit the skillet and press it down.
  3. Spread pizza sauce over the dough, sprinkle with cheese, and add desired toppings.
  4. Bake in the oven for 15-20 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and the crust is golden brown.
  5. Remove from oven, let cool slightly, slice, and serve.

Notes

For serving, slice the pizza and let people add extra red pepper flakes or olive oil. Serve with a simple salad or garlic bread. Store cooled pizza in the fridge for up to 3 days.
