  • 4 cups cubed day-old bread (challah, brioche, or sturdy white)
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 pinch salt
Optional Add-ins
  • ½ cup raisins
  • ½ cup chopped pecans or walnuts
  • 2 tablespoons bourbon Optional, for added flavor

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Optional: stir in bourbon or rum if using.
  3. Add the cubed bread to the custard mixture and gently mix until well coated. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes to soak up the custard.
  4. If desired, fold in any optional add-ins such as raisins or nuts.
Baking
  1. Pour the mixture into the greased baking dish, spreading it evenly.
  2. Bake for 45-50 minutes or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.
  3. Allow the pudding to cool for 10-15 minutes before serving.

Notes

Serve warm with caramel sauce or a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Customize with nuts, fruits, or spices to suit your taste.
