Ingredients
  

Main ingredients
  • 2 whole mackerel (cleaned, slit on both sides)
  • 1 tbsp oil Lightly grease the air fryer basket
  • 1 tsp salt Adjust to taste
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder Adjust for spiciness
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric
  • 1 tsp black pepper powder
  • 1 tsp garlic paste
  • 1 tsp ginger paste
  • 1 tsp lemon juice Squeeze before serving
  • 1/2 tsp cumin powder or fish masala Optional for added flavor

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Pat the mackerel dry completely.
  2. In a bowl, mix all spices, oil, and lemon juice to form a marinade.
  3. Rub the marinade generously inside, outside, and into the slits of the fish.
  4. Preheat the air fryer to 180°C for 3 minutes.
Cooking
  1. Place the mackerel in the basket (lightly greased).
  2. Air fry at 180°C for 10 minutes.
  3. Flip the mackerel and cook at 200°C for an additional 5–7 minutes for a crispy outer layer.
  4. Squeeze a little more lemon before serving.

Notes

Pat the fish very dry for crispy skin. Avoid overcrowding the basket, and brush with oil halfway for a roasted look. Adjust salt and chili to taste, and add curry leaves or garam masala at the end for an aromatic touch.
